Over the past three weeks our astounding growing baby has managed to stretch yet another 2 full inches. That’s pretty serious growth, and with it comes several physical developments:
- For starters, Pudding’s head to body ratio is finally starting to even out a bit as the rest of the body is actually growing faster than the head at this point. Finally, our little one is not so top-heavy. His/her adorable little limbs have lengthened, almost reaching their normal proportions which they will have at birth.
- This is a period of rapid growth as the fat begins to form underneath Pudding’s skin providing our baby with insulation for the coming months.
- Baby and placenta are about equal in size now.
- Our little one’s tiny heart is pumping as much as 25 quarts of blood a day and beats at a rate about double our heart rate.
- If you could take a peek inside, you would witness our child’s reflexes in action (Sucking, swallowing and blinking are now evident.). He/she is probably even hiccupping even though I don’t feel it yet!
- Our baby has learned to breathe! This is apparent from the regular movements of his chest. Isn’t it amazing that he/she is able to breathe “underwater,” inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid? These actions help Pudding’s lungs to develop and grow.
- Our little one has reached 4.57 inches (11.6cm) and approximately 3.53 ounces (100gm).
Pregnancy is a kind of miracle. Especially so in that it proves that a man and woman can conspire to force God to create a new soul. ~ Robert Anton Wilson
