· At about 3.5 inches long, Pudding’s little body and limber limbs are coordinated enough for loads of complicated motions. In fact, our baby’s whole body is moving right now – however his/her current size is still a bit too small for me to notice.
· Pudding’s bones are getting harder each day.
· Our baby’s skin is very thin and transparent; we could see his/her blood vessels through the skin.
· Our baby is also starting to develop the ability to move his/her eyes this week, although his/her eyelids still remain fused shut.
· What’s more, Pudding can make all sorts of fun facial expressions as he/she practices squinting, frowning, and grimacing.
· Lanugo, a very fine hair, covers Pudding’s body and will continue growing on our baby until around the 26th gestational week of pregnancy. Generally this will be shed prior to birth. Its purpose is to help protect baby’s skin while in all that water (imagine how wrinkly our body would be if we were submerged in water for 9 months)!
· Pudding’s thyroid gland has matured and our baby begins producing hormones which will be used throughout his or her life.
· If Pudding is a boy, his prostate gland develops this week; or
· If Pudding is a girl, her ovaries move from the abdomen to the pelvis.
· Cute development of the week: Pudding’s little hands can grasp at things and Pudding may already be sucking his/her thumb!
· Our baby is 3.42 inches (8.7cm) long and weighs about 1.52 ounces (43 grams) – approximately the weight of a letter!
A baby is someone just the size of a hug. ~Anonymous
